Who are the Blue Moon Brothers? Well, being a Blue Moon Brother is as much a state of mind as a state of being. The band was formed by a core group of friends, but it's grown to be much more. Along the way (we've been playing together as a bluegrass band since 1992) we have added members and featured a varying lineup. As our members' reputations grew, we find ourselves in demand in a variety of ways--all of the players play in more than one band! So this is less of a "band member" list than a "cast of characters", and the exact cast you encounter when you see the Blue Moon Brothers could include everybody listed here, or about any combination of these pickers, and you may see a surprise guest or two!

Ken Custodio: Guitar, Bass and Vocals

Ken has been playing guitar and bass in various bands for over 20 years, and his solidly rhythmic approach to his guitar work helps anchor the Brothers' sound. Ken resides in Sutter Creek, CA, where he teaches Junior High when he's not pickin' with the Blue Moon Brothers or Invoice

Rick (Red) Horlick: Mandolin, Guitar, Bass and Vocals

Rick has been a lifelong afficiando of various instruments and musical styles. His knack for phrasing and his pure tenor vocals are invaluable to the Brothers. His love for pure high lonesome Bluegrass keeps the Brothers from straying too far off the course. Rick lives in Hayward, CA., and in addition to his duties in the Blue Moon Brothers, plays regularly with Redwing all around northern California.

Bruce Campbell: Guitar, Banjo, Bass and Vocals

Bruce has 30+ years of experience playing music, with several bands and musical styles. It's been years since Bruce played in a rock band, but his rock-n-roll energy has never subsided. We never know what Bruce will say from the stage, but we can count on him for a good show! In addition to playing with the Blue Moon Brothers, he also plays regularly with The Alhambra Valley Band, and the Whiskey Brothers in the Bay Area. Bruce lives in Martinez, CA

Gene Tortora: Resophonic Guitar (a/k/a Dobro), Guitar and Vocals

Gene brings a wealth of musical experience with him when he takes the stage with the Blue Moon Brothers. He has been a fixture in the Bay Area bluegrass scene for 30+ years, and has been featured on numerous albums by well known artists, the latest being Kathy Kallick. We're always glad when Gene can join us. Folks always want to know, "What the heck kind of guitar is that, and how do you play it so good?!"
